Our people
Metapraxis attracts committed people with different personal backgrounds and with varying degrees of prior experience. During a career at Metapraxis they develop a profound insight into business performance management processes in multinationals and expertise in specific sectors. Our developers incorporate feedback gained directly from our clients and their knowledge of software industry trends to extend and further enhance our supporting software techniques.

Here are some short profiles of some of our consultants and developers.

Bethan EllisBethan EllisConsultant
Bethan joined Metapraxis in November 2002, after graduating with an MA in English from Queens' College, Cambridge.

"After four years with Metapraxis, I'm more involved with the project management and business advisory aspects of our work than the technical application of the management library - although that doesn't mean I can't roll up my sleeves and get involved when the need arises. My projects have taken me to locations across Europe, and have varied from improving monthly reporting and analysis to developing models to support strategic planning. While the excitement of travel has worn off a little, the challenge of developing strong and lasting working relationships with clients around the world remains stimulating, and I still very much enjoy it. Part of that is encouraging clients to trust you, and rewarding that trust by ensuring that you're both clear on what the project will deliver - and that it happens to schedule. More recently, I've been responsible for developing the new website and company profile, paying close attention to how we present ourselves to potential clients and colleagues."

David HammondDavid HammondConsultant
David Hammond graduated from The University of Bristol with a MEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering in 2004. He joined Metapraxis in October 2004.

"After four years of Mechanical Engineering, I wanted to work for a company where I could continue to get experience across the whole project life cycle, and where I'd be given responsibility early on. Within my first few months, I was thrown in at the deep end, working with a lot of autonomy for very senior clients. I've had a lot of variety in my work, with projects ranging from a high-tech start-up in New York State to support for consumer goods businesses in Mexico and Durban. It's a friendly company to work for, and the odd white-water rafting and safari trip have been great, but you need to be pretty flexible: on one trip to New York, I found out when I got there that my one-to-one training sessions had become a presentation for twenty senior people, due to start in an hour's time!"

Alan PayneAlan PayneAnalyst
Alan joined Metapraxis in August 2006, after graduating in Economics from the University of Essex. Prior to his degree course he completed his Assocation of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification with the Chartered Accountants Day, Smith and Hunter.

"I joined Metapraxis because I wanted to work for a small, friendly company where I could get properly involved in project work, and where I had the chance to make an impression. Since joining, I've had the opportunity to work for senior clients at a number of different blue-chip companies, and I've been impressed with the level of responsibility I've been given in a short space of time. Consultants are required to take the Diploma in Financial Management, and I decided to get this done soon after joining. It was hard work trying to fit in all of the exams and coursework alongside my work - consultants usually take the exams across several sittings - but I'm glad I did so, and will find out the results in February. More importantly, I like the fact that even as junior member of the consulting team at Metapraxis, my input and opinion is valued, right up to Board level."

Alan passed his exams with flying colours, and was awarded his Diploma in Financial Management in February.

Kevin Gurton Kevin GurtonAnalyst
Kevin joined our Technology Solutions division in July 2006, after completing his MSc (Hons) in Physics at the University of Nottingham.

"Although I had very little programming experience before joining Metapraxis, I settled in quickly, and was soon sent on a training course to improve my programming skills. The other members of the team have been very helpful, and are always willing to lend a hand if I get stuck with anything. The opportunity to develop projects that have an actual impact on those who use them was an important reason for joining Metapraxis. After an initial period of familiarising myself with the underlying architecture of the Management Library, I soon got stuck in to a major new project: helping with the recreation of our techniques in Flash and ASP.NET. Again, these were two new technologies for me, but I was given ample support to enable me to develop relatively independently. I have also built freestanding utilities to support current projects by our consultants."
