Group reporting and consolidation for the wood industry

The challenge

Our first project at Nordic Paper was to create an advanced financial and market analyses solution for the management and board of directors. The Empower solution focused on calculating Price, Volume, Currency and Mix effects bottom-up from products and markets to factory and group levels. Our second project was to create analyses of their entire production volume and efficiency and make it accessible to their production management in their different factories.

The solution

Our main focus of the project was to create an analysis solution for the Group Management and the Board of directors to give them valuable input to their business strategy and knowledge about their finance, sales and production performance. This was such a success that the managing director gave a speech and praised the solution at a Swedish controller conference.

We developed a visual business driver diagram allowing insight into how the production drivers affect the outcomes and the KPI’s. Seeing the connections between actions and result gave the users a better understanding of the effects of their day-to-day operations, and a stronger sense of urgency in delivering results in their individual tasks.

Shifting the focus for the production management and controller from creating reporting material to analyzing the outcomes is paramount in promoting actions. Identifying bottlenecks and rapidly acting on variations and outliers enable continuous improvements within the production and provide a foundation for investment decisions.

To support the group management and the board of directors we created a set of financial, market and production reports and analyses. For the sales and market management we developed advanced analyses of price and volume development for all markets and the different sales products.
